From your customers perspective

Putting yourself in your customers shoes and trying to complete tasks using the website can be a great way to improve your content

So with your nearest web enabled device, enter your domain name and choose a simple task to carry out.

• This could be as simple as contact support.
• Return a product.
• Find todays opening times.
• Browse the products or maybe take a look at the latest products.
• Ask a sales question.
• Find the nearest retail outlet.
• Find open job offers.
• Plus so many more...

If you can complete the tasks easily then great job, though now try with another device maybe a phone, tablet, desktop or laptop.

If you've found any issues then this will be a great place to start with the next site update. Most typical issues for customers can be missing details and links, or poor contrast colours which make it hard to read on some device screens.

Maybe include others

This is a great task to share within the company, friends or family. Especially if someone in the company or you know isn't great with web stuff, ask them to try doing a task their feedback may be very eye opening to you! But the only down side of asking a wider group, is you need to be able to collect, process and provide feedback to that larger group.

Extra step:

If you're up to speed with the browser dev tools, then try the above list with vision deficiency emulation on.

In Edge browsers - on your chosen webpage right click and choose inspect or use Ctrl + Shift + I then toggle device emulation using the desktop/phone screen icon or Ctrl + Shift + M then click the eye icon on the top tool bar and choose a vision deficiency.

To turn off the vision deficiency emulation, click on the eye icon again and select No vision deficiency emulation click the highlighted desktop/phone screen icon again or Ctrl + Shift + P to open the command palette type toggle and look for toggle device emulation click it, close the DevTools by clicking the X in the right corner of the tool bar.
